Hello.emoji-hug It is not required by law for homeschooled students in Alberta to maintain records, however, it is deemed considerably helpful and beneficial to create a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress year to year. This information is crucial when it comes to creating a high school transcript for future college or career needs or in case the homeschooler needs to return to school down the road.

As a parent, you may want to consider things worth keeping record of. A couple of recommendations for you:

• For any standardized assessments taken, maintain record of the scores

• The grades by subject gotten by the homeschooler

• The subject work covered at each grade level

• Other achievements of the homeschooler including extracurricular activities the homeschooler participated in

• Any volunteer work the student performed while homeschooling

I suggest you take a look at this page which includes specific information regarding what is required to homeschool in Alberta:

It is not an obligation by law, but it is considered highly appropriate and valuable to create a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress year to year.
