Course Overview
This 3rd- 5th Grade video course covers all of the content students need to successfully improve their 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade English Language Arts skills. The course has an emphasis on reading comprehension skills. It covers the requirements of the Common Core and also goes beyond common core requirements by preparing students for new topics that are dealt with during 3rd – 5th grade English Language Arts. This course includes reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling lessons!

Course Goals:
Upon course completion, students will be able to determine main ideas and details, use text evidence, compare and contrast themes, make inferences, determine problems and solutions, determine mood, tone, and theme, find causes and effects, summarize stories, determine author’s purpose, spell correctly, determine the meaning of words, write biographies, write narratives, write informational texts, and write opinion essays.
Target Audience:
This video-course is primarily intended for elementary grades 3, 4, and 5.

Students taking this course will need to have completed Kidergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.

Unit 3: Inferences, causes & effects, textual evidences, informational text, informational writing, compound sentences, conjunctions, vocabulary development, base words and endings, reading comprehension exam
Unit 4: Problems & Solutions, chronology of events, graphs and data, fables, summarizing, summary writing, phonics, grammar, reading comprehension exam, mid-term exam
Unit 5: Compare/Contrast, narrative and rhyming poetry, ballads, sonnets, mood, tone, theme, rhyme, rhythm, double consonants, punctuation, quotes, writing poetry, reading comprehension exam
