Course Description

United States Government and Politics Course. This complete U.S. Government and Politics course is comparable with the one required by many states in the United States for high school graduation. Students typically take a U.S. government course in their junior or senior year and is a requirement of high school graduation. This course exceeds the curriculum requirements for a U.S. civics course by going beyond the rudiments of the Constitution and functions of the three branches of government to include the in depth coverage of the interactions between the branches and more importantly, the processes by which the people can link to their government through elections, the media, political parties, and interest groups. The politics component is discussed throughout the lessons without any partisan bias and demonstrates the messy and challenging elements of a functioning government. Political events, past and present will be incorporated to help emphasize the actual mechanisms of the government as the constitutional system, practical norms, and political processes are put into practice.

Course Goals

Upon course completion, students should be prepared to successfully pass any state mandated End of Course Exam for U.S. Government. Completion of the course will also provide more than adequate background knowledge to excel in an introductory American Government college course.

Target Audience

This video-course is primarily intended for Grade 11 and 12 high school students, however,it may be appropriate for any high school student with above average reading and comprehension skills. The difficultly level of this course is medium to medium-hard.
