Course Overview
This “Upper Elementary/Middle School" (grades 6 to 8) Social Studies video course covers all concepts a student needs to complete 5th grade Social Studies. The course provides an overview of the history of North America from 12,000 years ago up until 1789. This course uses different modes of learning—vocabulary review, writing prompts, drawing, graphic organizers—to provide students with everything they need to understand how the United States came to be.

Course goals
Upon course completion, students will be able to:
- Identify continents, oceans and states on a map.
- Explain how human came to live on the continent of North America.
- Explain why Europeans came to North America.
- Describe how Europeans came to North America.
- Describe the failures and successes of early European settlements in North America.
- Provide a clear and detailed timeline of the Causes of the American Revolution.
- Explain the major battles and strategies of the American Revolution.
- Describe the people of the revolution—patriots, loyalists, women, African Americans, British soldiers and Continental soldiers.
- Explain the first attempt at governing the USA and why it failed.
- Explain the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Target Audience
This video course is primarily intended for students in grade 5 (ages 10-11) and anyone looking for a history of the beginnings of the United States and North America.
