A casual and friendly introduction to the clarinet.  The clarinet is a very old instrument and it is featured prominently throughout Classical music, Jazz, and especially in the film and TV world.  We talk about what teh clarinet does well and why I like the instrument so much !

Course Overiew

This “Intro to Clarinet” video course covers the fundamental aspects and skill sets of getting started on the clarinet. The material in this course covers a wide variety of musical genres, which will be both very interesting and fun for the student! It is intended for Grades 5-12.

 

This course includes:

Upon course completion, students will be able to:

This video-course is primarily intended for students in grades 5-12.

 

Course Requirements

Students taking this course will need a functioning clarinet, some clarinet reeds (strength 2, 2.5 or 3 is the most common for beginners), and ideally a music stand for their written sheet music.

Wes is an in-demand musician who has performed with world famous personalities including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Justin Timberlake, Queen Latifa, Megan Trainor, Aloe Blacc, Soul legend Booker T Jones and Jazz legend Poncho Sanchez. He has recorded for top artists including Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, Jennifer Lopez, Macy Gray and Zendaya. In 2013, he played at the White House in Booker T Jones' band with President Obama and the First Lady in attendance. In 2014, he was featured in the finale of the Academy Award winning feature film, 'Whiplash'. He performs as a leader and sideman throughout the United States as well as abroad. Wes holds his Master's in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor's in Music from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
