Foundations of Written Music I is a video course that covers all the contents students need to understand basic music theory.  Units 1 and 2 are ideal for students K-2nd Grade; and Units 3 and 4 for students in Grades 3-5.The course has emphasis on reading, writing and notating music in both the treble and bass clef.  This practical course covers the requirements for music standards and goes beyond by ensuring that students gain a deeper understanding of music theory helping develop young musicians that are able not only to speak the language of music but also to read and write music as well.

Course Goals

Upon completion, students will be able to use music elements such as tempo, meter, rhythm, dynamics and major/minor tonality to compose a simple melody and notate it on the grand staff.

 

Target Audience

This video course is primarily intended for all students that have a desire to understand how music works and how to write music accurately.  This video course will also help students to sight read music well and gain better understanding of Western Music.

 

There are no prerequisites for this course.

For more than 20 years, I have taught piano, flute, theory and composition to students from many countries, ranging in age, from preschool to retirees.
