Recordkeeping preconditions for homeschoolers in Texas

  Tessla1996 » Tue, 13 Oct 2020 13:36:41 PM

Hello,emoji-smile Our family just recently relocated to Texas and need a guaranteed homeschooling solution to not fall behind with the curriculum back home. We literally have no time to puzzle together resources. Must I keep records of my homeschooling in Texas? I would be very thankful for feedback on the homeschool program for Texas. I'd be grateful for any pointers or help.

Hello there.emoji-smile It is not an obligation by law for homeschoolers in Texas to keep records ,nevertheless, it is deemed considerably helpful and beneficial to maintain a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress for each grade. This information is crucial when it comes to creating a high school transcript for future college or career needs or in case the homeschooler needs to return to school in the future.

As a parent, you may want to consider things worth keeping record of. Some ideas for you:

• For any standardized tests taken, keep record of the scores

• The grades by subject received by the child

• The subject work undertaken at each grade level

• Other achievements of the child including extracurricular activities the child participated in

• Any volunteer time the student spent while homeschooling

It is not mandated by law, but it is considered substantially appropriate and valuable to create a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress year to year. You may probably want to review this Texas specific page which contains information about the laws and requirements to homeschool in Texas:
