We recently moved back to New Jersey. What records are homeschoolers required to maintain in New Jersey? I appreciate any feedback!

Hello, It is not an obligation by law for homeschoolers in New Jersey to keep records, nevertheless, it is deemed highly helpful and valuable to maintain a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress over time. This information is crucial when it comes to creating a high school transcript for future college or career needs or in case the homeschooler needs to return to school in the future.

As a parent, you may want to consider things worth keeping record of. A couple of recommendations for you:

• For any standardized exams taken, keep record of the scores

• The grades by subject achieved by the student

• The subject topics studied at each grade level

• Other achievements of the student including extracurricular activities the student participated in

• Any volunteer time the student performed while homeschooling

Homeschool recordkeeping in New Jersey is not a requirement by law. Overall, we are very happy with the Lernsys program. We love it!

It is not mandated by New Jersey law, but it is considered considerably appropriate and beneficial to create a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress year to year.
