Hi,homeschool-placer What are the homeschool graduation rules in Alberta? Also, if we can get some feedback on the program too it would be super fun. Thanks for the help.

Hi, Parents in Alberta get to determine when their homeschooled student can graduate and then give the homeschooler a diploma upon graduation. Homeschoolers in Alberta are not required by law to take any test in order to graduate. Families in Alberta are at liberty to include what they find relevant to military, future workplace places and colleges when creating their student's transcripts. Homeschooled students in Alberta meet graduation requirements upon determination by the parent. A parent may decide to assign credits to individual courses studied in the course of the homeschooling session. SECTION 6 Home Education Regulations also states that: "On the recommendation of a school principal, a student receiving a home education program that follows the Alberta Programs of Study is eligible to receive high school credits if the student achieves the course standards and learning outcomes set out in the Alberta Programs Study." You may probably want to review this Alberta specific page which contains facts on the laws and requirements to homeschool in Alberta:

With very few exceptions, almost all 10 provinces including Alberta permit a parent to issue a homeschool diploma for their own student. Employers in Alberta are not allowed to discriminate against a homeschool diploma or give preference to a candidate whose diploma given by a public school. Many schools in Alberta and elsewhere actively make an effort to enroll homeschooled students.

The following page has a lot of good information on graduation, and as a parent you can choose to follow that. If your student is considering a particular university, looking at the rules the university has is a good idea so that you may align your homeschool goals with those.
