Need info on rules to homeschool in Illinois

  Ezara_1970 » Sun, 21 Feb 2021 19:31:41 PM

Hey,homeschool-placer In Illinois, is the parent or person homeschooling the child required to be certified as a teacher in Illinois? Any reviews on the program also? Can anybody who uses the Lernsys homeschooling program with home-school experience talk about their experience with Lernsys?

Hi, Homeschooling in Illinois is quite simple, but you are required to observe certain rules before beginning to homeschool. Families really have three requirements to homeschool in Illinois. Homeschooling is legal in Illinois. The law in Illinois treats homeschools as "private schools". You are not required to register your school nor are you required to have your school recognized by the state of Illinois. The law does not allow its registration or to be officially recognized. Parents who choose to homeschool in Illinois have to observe the following requirements:

1. Provide the instruction in English language.

2. Include the following subjects in the curriculum:

• Math

• Social sciences

• Language arts

• Fine arts

• Physical development and health as a combined subject

• Physical and biological sciences as a combined subject

The instruction given should be adequate and comply with the requirements in Illinois.

3. Have a name for the homeschool program. It is preferable to use “private school” when dealing with the government. For students applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to aid in their financial college fee, the law allows the program to be referred to as a homeschool and not a specific name. There are no requirements for the amount of work to be assigned or how frequently it should be done, the tracking method to be used to evaluate the child’s progress or the instructional materials to be used. To prevent truancy uncertainty, students already enrolled in public/private school should be withdrawn officially before starting the homeschool program. See here for more information:

If you are interested in homeschooling in Illinois, be sure to comply with several rules which Illinois law requires. Families are permitted to homeschool in Illinois. If your child was previously enrolled in a school, you should only inform the school district that you will be homeschooling. You typically inform the school with a NOI (letter of intent) to homeschool. A parent or person(s) teaching a child elsewhere than at school is not mandated by law to be certified as a teacher in Illinois. However, using curriculum developed by certified or licensed teachers is highly recommended.

Hello there.homeschool-placer You will have to meet a few rules before starting to homeschool in Illinois. Homeschooling in Illinois is authorized. There are basically just 3 regulations to homeschool your kids in Illinois. You probably may want to let the school know that you will be homeschooling with a certified letter. The local board of education in Illinois is not required to establish a record for a child who is is being homeschooled. If the board of education receives confirmation from the parent/guardian of a child educated elsewhere than at school, the board may establish a record for the homeschooled child for the sole purpose of recording that the child is receiving an education as required by law.
