COURSE OVERVIEW
This course begins with an overview of the eight parts of speech (POS) followed by an in-depth study of each. We will cover nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections, learning to define, recognize, and use them correctly and effectively in speech and composition.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is designed for students in grades 7-12.

This course includes
- 43 lessons
- over 10 hours of video
- 21 content-based lessons
- 21 reviewing practices lessons (I review each worksheet step by step)
- Course resources including 20 extra practices, information, notes, tests, and test keys
- Each of the 21 content-based lessons includes the following:
- self-checks along the way within the lesson video, so students should always have paper and pencil at hand
- a formal practice activity with a corresponding video reviewing the answers to the practice
- an online computerized test
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Course resources include 20 extra items: practices, notes, tests, keys, answer templates, etc., to be used at parents' discretion.
COURSE GOALS
After successfully completing this course, students will have a strong foundation in grammar upon which to build higher level grammatical skills. Students will be ready to move into the second course which will focus on sentence construction, phrases and clauses, diagramming sentences, sentence types, common sentence errors, and parallel structure which will strengthen grammar, language, and writing skills needed for being successful at the secondary and post secondary levels.

Unit 1: Parts of Speech Overview
8 lessons - introducing all 8 parts of speech
Unit 2: A Detailed Look at Nouns, Pronouns, and Adjectives
12 lessons - covering propertiesand uses of nouns, types of pronouns and their uses, and adjectives as modifiers of nouns and pronouns
Unit 3: All About Those Verbs and Adverbs
8 lessons - covering action and linking/state-of-being verbs, transitive and intransitive verbs, complements, and adverbs as modifiers of verbs, adjectives, and other modifiers
Unit 4: Function Words: Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections
6 lessons - covering commonly used prepositions and prepositional phrases, types and uses of conjunctions, and function of interjections
Unit 5: Strong Words
8 lessons - covering the importance of using specific, powerful nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in writing
