Homeschooling in California is easy, but you are required to comply with certain preconditions before you begin to homeschool. Families essentially have eight requirements to homeschool in California which are very easy to meet as homeschooling is lawful in California. Parents who choose to homeschool in California must comply with the following eight requirements:
• File an annual private school affidavit and give a name to their school
• Maintain an attendance register
• Instruction must be taught in English
• Instructors must be capable of teaching
• Provide instruction in the courses regularly taught in public school (e.g., math, science, ELA, health, social studies, and driver training)
• Keep a list of instructors with their addresses and qualifications
• Keep a list of courses of study
• Keep immunizations records or personal beliefs exemption
There are no requirements for the load of work to be covered or how often it needs to be done, the testing method to be used to test the homeschooler’s progress or the instructional materials to be used. To prevent truancy issues, students already attending public school should be unenrolled officially before starting the homeschool program. See here for more information:
